How do I save my computer files to a disk to transfer to a new computer?

I recently purchased a new desktop computer and I would like to save the files on my old computer which is a HP pavilion mx75 to a disk and transfer it to my new computer. Does anyone know how to save it to a disk? I’m slow on the computer so if you could give me step by step instructions that would be wonderful.

oh yes,, i might want to mention that there is a virus on the old computer which makes it run considerably slow. I let the virus protection program expire.
