How do I safely transfer files from infected computer?

As a result of watching streaming video from Tudou, my computer was infected with something that makes IE unusable. Norton 360 didn’t stop it and the Tech guy at Staples couldn’t fix it. I now have a new computer and would like to bring over my MS Office docs, my bookmarks, my ebooks and the like. I do not want to transfer the virus (or whatever) over. What’s the best way to transfer my stuff safely? The new computer is currently running Norton Internet Security.
