Why is my computer randomly making start up noises?

I turned on my computer today and my desktop background image was gone and was replaced by a blue screen. I then put a game disc in the cd rom drive and the picture was warped and not aligned properly. Now as my computer is running slower than normal I have been hearing random sounds as if my computer is starting up followed by popping and clicking sounds. What is going on?
