What specifications should a computer have that would make it quick?

I’m looking to buy a laptop but I’m not sure which specifications I should look for because I want to get a fairly quick computer. All I know is: the higher the RAM the quicker the computer. I’m pretty sure processors have something to do with how quickly the computer works as well but I don’t know which processor is better than which.

Please give me some pointers.
