What is the best computer to use to connect the internet to my tv?

I am looking at getting rid of cable (99% of broadcasts are garbage) and would like just to use a computer to connect the internet to my television screen. Mostly to watch Hulu, netflix, select shows, etc. Is there a computer that would be recommended for just this purpose? Hopefully under $500. I don’t know if the new netbooks would be a good solution or possible an apple mac mini? Any relevant input would be helpful. Thanks in advance.
