How do you add a computer to your home network?

I have a normal desktop computer as of now and I recently bought a laptop so I could use it wirelessly and I have already bought the router for it. Com-cast says they can set up the network but it will be $150.00 to do so! Is this something I can do on my own to save the $150? I would just like to be able to be on the internet on both computers simultaneously.
